Vikings Pull Out Wins at Franklin

The Viking Volleyball team headed into last Tuesday night’s games at the Franklin Triangular hoping to add two more wins to their 8-3 record. They discovered that it would be a little more difficult to accomplish the task; however, they were able to squeeze out the wins to improve to 10-3 on the season.  In the first game of the night, the Vikings won in straight sets over the Flyers 25-20, 25-20. The Vikings took a strong lead in both sets, but allowed Franklin to come back before finishing each set.

In the second match of the night, the Vikings took on Loomis.  Bertrand won easily in the first set, 25-16, but allowed the scrappy Wolves to fight back to win the second set 19-25.  The third set was a typical Bertrand/Loomis battle, going back and forth until the Vikings were finally able to take the lead in the final rotations of the match.  The Vikings were plagued with service errors and struggled with Loomis’ defense and shot selections. “Once Loomis gained confidence, they were difficult to stop,” said Coach Mason. “They played hard and did what they needed to do to keep us on our heels.”

Aleya Hueftle emerged with a superior night contributing 16 kills and hitting over .400.  Johanna Ford ended the evening with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .333. Hueftle also tallied 2 blocks. Jennica Dannehl also added 2 and Sadie Maloley and Johanna Ford added 1. Erin Boggs set up 52 assists on the night. Johanna Ford and Macie Steinbrink each contributed 2 ace serves. Jada High picked up 29 digs in the two games and Ford tallied 17.
