Vikings Loomis Tourney Runner-up

Last week the Viking Volleyball team finished strong in an eventful week of activity finishing with four wins and one loss.  On Tuesday, September 9, the Vikings hosted Amherst, traveled to Elwood to play Hi-Line on Thursday, and finished the week at the Loomis Tourney on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The Vikings were able to defeat Amherst in three straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-26, 28-26.  Johanna Ford posted 12 kills in the game, Erin Boggs put up 29 assists and 15 digs, and Jada High contributed 19 digs. Jennica Dannehl was the leading blocker on the night with 2 solo blocks, and Jada High and Johanna Ford added 2 aces each.

On Thursday, the Vikings were challenged by Hi-Line (Eustis-Farnam-Elwood) in a match that took the Vikings four sets to win 25-20, 25-13, 19-25, 25-18. Hitting leaders for the night were Jordan Hilmer with 10 kills, 4 ace serves, and 13 digs.  Johanna Ford also put down 8 kills, 14 digs, 1 block, and 3 aces. Erin Boggs had 30 assists and 11 digs, and was perfect from the service line.  Jada High contributed 24 digs. Aleya Hueftle had 3 blocks.

The Vikings finished the week with runner-up honors at the Loomis Tourney on Saturday, losing to Hi-Line in the finals.  In the first game of the day, the Vikings were matched up with perennial power Hampton.  The Vikings defeated the Hawks in two straight sets, 25-15, 25-19. In the second game of the day, Bertrand played Silver Lake, a team that they may likely see in sub-district play at the end of the season.  The Vikings won in two sets 25-20, 25-22. 

The Vikings started out on fire in the final game against the Bulls, but ran out of gas for the final two sets, losing in three sets, 25-14, 12-25, 19-25.  The Vikings were led by Johanna Ford with 11 kills, 13 digs and 1 ace, and 3 blocks.  Macie Steinbrink had 7 kills and 1 ace, and Aleya Hueftle had 6 kills and 1 block.  Erin Boggs contributed 28 assists, 2 kills, 2 aces, and 6 digs.  Jada High picked up 24 digs and had 2 aces.
