VIkings lose in a close game

The Vikings did many things right, but unfortunately many errors cost them a victory against Wauneta Palisade at last Friday’s homecoming game.  At the start of the game, the Vikings gave up an early touchdown, but soon after marched down the field and scored on a twelve yard touchdown run by Ethan Klingenberg.  Jarett Bieker kicked the extra point to make it 8-7 in favor of the Broncos. In the second quarter, Wauneta-Palisade scored on a two yard run, but the Vikings bounced back on a thirty-two yard run by Klingenberg, putting Bertrand behind by 1 point.  The Broncos scored late in the half to make the score 20-13 in favor of the Wauneta-Palisade going into halftime.

The Vikings scored early in the 3rd quarter when Arik Ackerman hit Jarett Bieker on a five yard touchdown pass.  The Vikings picked up the two-point conversion on a fake extra point as Ackerman passed to Jackson Furlong in the end zone giving the Vikings the lead.  Later in the third quarter, Wauneta-Palisade scored a touchdown on a tipped pass that fell into the hands of a Bronco receiver for a touchdown for the final score of the game.

The Vikings had many chances, but were unable to score as penalties and unforced errors plagued the Vikings as they fell short. The Vikings will play at Loomis on Friday, September 27 at 7 pm.

2019 Preseason Football

The 2019 Football Team is looking to have a very successful season. The Vikings only have six upperclassmen this year, so they are looking down to the younger members to pull their weight. During the off-season, the boys lifted weights and attended camps. They worked hard, looking to improve in any way possible.

Returning Coaches Steve Colfack, Mark Dethlefs, and Craig Newcomb have a lot more to watch this season after losing two coaches from last season. Although it’s going to be a big change for the team, Coach Colfack doesn’t think it will affect the boys performance for the season.

The boys have a lasting tradition of a strong brotherhood. Upperclassmen are good about including the younger teammates in and outside of practice. After losing 8 Seniors last year, the returning players are hoping to work hard and dominate this season. With 23 team members, this season is looking to be very promising for the Vikings.
