Spirit Week at BHS

Another successful spirit week has made its way through the halls of BHS. Posters mounted on walls, streamers hanging from the ceiling, and lockers stuffed with candy, all in good fun to promote school spirit. This year even the elementary got to partake in the fun too, by wearing a certain color for Color Day.

The themes this year started off with Generation Day, where each class was given a certain generation to dress up as. The freshman class were the baby freshman. Sophomores, were the awkward stage sophomores. Juniors were the middle aged juniors. And lastly the seniors were the senior citizens. 12065545_10207692595058111_1874700607946922301_nCostumes ranged from pacifiers to pigtails, to pregnant bellies and walkers. The creativity on Generation Day would be hard to beat later in the week, but these Vikings are always up for the challenge.

The following theme was Movie Character Day where everyone’s inner movie character came to shine. 12072589_1643437375898514_2285887794521594558_nCharacters from Mean Girls, A League of their Own, Pocahontas, The Sandlot, and many more made an appearance in the characters famous outfit.

Wednesday was Color War Day, where each class was given a certain color. The seniors were black, juniors were yellow, sophomores were pink, and the freshman were red. I might be biased but I think the seniors won that war.

Thursday was Country Hick Day. All the students either rocked a pair of overalls, old flannels, or some muddy boots. The outfits worn could crack a smile or laugh out of anyone. This day seemed to be the favorite of all the days.

The last day was the traditional Blue and White Day. Game day jerseys, blue shirts, face paint, and retro apparel all could have been seen through the halls. Though there was no homecoming game this year, the spirit brought by all the students didn’t decrease.

Injuries Affect the Viking Football Team

Last Friday the boys competed against the Alma Cardinals. The Vikings who have been battling minor injuries throughout the season, were suddenly plagued with adversities. Both of the Viking running backs and best tacklers were hurt before half. Cooper Grabenstein was injured with a high ankle sprain in the second possession of the game. Although he remained in the game, his mobility was severely limited. Tyrell Younger and Wyatt Wilken, both injured toward the end of the first quarter, were taken out of the game completely. This gave the younger players a chance to step in and play different positions, some of which they were not accustom to playing.  Miles Peterson played 5 different positions on both offense and defense including full back, tight end, wide receiver, defensive end and linebacker.

Although the boys continued to  play very well, the game ended in a loss with a score of 40-32.  The Vikings will return to action against Kenesaw on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 following the volleyball game.
