RPAC Basketball Teams Announced

Although school sports and activities have been put on hold for the time being due to the global pandemic, the RPAC coaches were able to get the post-season RPAC team selections made for the 2019-2020 season. Three Vikings were amid those selections including Erin Boggs for the girls, and Jarrett Bieker and Arik Ackerman for the boys.

Junior Erin Boggs was placed on the RPAC East first team for the girls. As a guard, Boggs led the Vikings with 10.3 points per game, 2.3 assists, and 2.2 steals. She also averaged 3.1 rebounds per game as a point guard.

The Lady Vikings finished their season with an 11-11 record. Although they were not blessed with a lot of size, they made up for it with heart and determination. They will lose 4 seniors, Cailey Grabenstein, Jada High, Grace Straight, and Natalie Johnson.

Returning next year for the Vikings will be sophomore Johanna Ford who averaged 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 points per game. Trista Callahan, a junior, averaged 4.8 points, 1 assist and 4.2 rebounds per game and sophomore Kenzy Drain averaged 1.9 points per game.

Viking Boys Gain Confidence

For the boys, Jarrett Bieker was an RPAC East first team selection and Arik Ackerman was RPAC East Honorable Mention. As a sophomore, Bieker was the Viking leading scorer this season averaging 14.6 points and 9 rebounds per game. He also led the team in assists with 1.9 and steals with 1.7 per game. Ackerman, a junior, averaged 8.3 points, nearly 1 assist per game, and 4.4 rebounds as a guard.

The young Viking team made many gains throughout season, finishing strong and confident. Although they will lose veteran players Isaiah Schwarz and Brandon Dodson, as well as single year player Sam Maloley to graduation, they return a number of players who look to pick up where they left off. Besides Ackerman and Jarrett Bieker, the Vikings will return starter sophomore Jonah Nelson who averaged 7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, and freshman Owen Kaps who contributed 4.6 points and 3. 2 rebounds per game. Other players making big contributions to this season’s team include junior Landon Andersen, freshman Chonsey Bieker, and sophomore Joseph Pelton.

Winter Sports begin rpac competitions

It’s RPAC time!! The Viking sports teams are looking forward to this weekend as they head into the start of the winter RPAC competitions.  On Friday January 24, the Wolfking wrestlers will head to Wauneta-Palisade High School in Wauneta to compete in the 2020 wrestling meet, while the girls and boys basketball teams will head to Medicine Valley on Saturday, January 25 to begin the week-long RPAC basketball tournament.


The Bertrand-Loomis wrestlers will be led by C-2 state ranked junior Trevin Edwards(18-3) in the 106 pound weight class, and senior Jacob Hilmer (12-4) at the 113 class. Both will enter as number one seeds in their respective weight classes and hope to emerge as RPAC Champions. 

John Kenney at 132 looks to enter as the second seed in a very competitive field of wrestlers as each of the top three have wins over each other. Joel Abramson at 182 will also be seeded second but will have to upset 22-1 Daylan Russell of Alma and a very tough Bobby Evans (18-8) of Cambridge for the conference title.

Kellan Brown at 120  and Alex Booe at 285 will most likely be seeded in third, while Justice Wissmann at 156 will round out the Wolfking field with a fifth seed.


The boys and girls basketball teams will start the RPAC tournament this Saturday in Medicine Valley where the fifth seeded Viking boys will take on the fourth seeded Trojans of Cambridge at 4:15.  At 6:00, the second seeded Bertrand girls will take on number seven seeded Arapahoe. 

The Viking boys (3-9) are looking forward to taking on the Trojans now (3-8).  Bertrand will be led by sophomore Jarrett Bieker who averages 13.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.  Along with Bieker will be guards Arik Ackerman who is averaging 7.8 points per game and Jonah Nelson who is averaging 6.5.  Seniors Isaiah Schwarz and Sam Maloley are other likely starters. Other probably contributors will be freshmen Owen Kaps and Chonsey Bieker, and juniors Landon Andersen and Ethan Taylor.

The Bertrand girls are hoping to compete well in the 2020 tournament.  The Vikings will take on Arapahoe in first round action, and hope to advance to play the winner of Cambridge and Medicine Valley in the quarter final games on Monday in Alma.  The winners will advance to play in the semi-final round at Southwest High School on Thursday.  The Lady Vikings are led by junior point guard Erin Boggs who averages 10.3 points a game, as well as 2.6 assists and 2.5 steals..  Along with Boggs, senior Jada High and junior Trista Callahan will look to help out on the offense side, while sophomore Johanna Ford and senior Cailey Grabstein will help down low.  Others likely to contribute will be seniors Grace Straight and Natalie Johnson, and sophomore Kenzy Drain.

2019 New West All-Star Classic

The top volleyball and basketball athletes of Central Nebraska will be playing on Thursday and Friday, June 13 and 14. The athletes from the RPAC, Fort Kearney, Lou Platte, and Southwest conferences will compete to raise money for the Nebraska Kidney Association. For the Vikings, Lindsay Schutz will compete in both the volleyball and girls basketball games, and Tyler Callahan will play in the boys basketball competition.

The All-Star Classic will begin on Thursday, June 13 at 5:00 pm when volleyball all-stars from the RPAC will take on the top athletes of the Fort Kearney Conference at Minden’s C.L. Jones Middle School, and the best of the Southwest Conference will take on the Lou Platte Conference stars at the Minden High School gym in the best of five set series. Championship and consolation games will follow the conclusion of the first round games with a best of three format.

On Friday, June 14, girls and boys basketball all-stars will be featured when the RPAC vs Fort Kearney and Southwest vs Lou Platte conferences compete. Tip off for the girls will be at 5:00 in the C.L. Jones and Minden High gymnasiums. Warm-up for the the boys games will follow immediately at the conclusion of the girls games.

Doors will open to the public at 4:00 pm both nights.
