The 2019 Viking Golf Team qualified for state for the first time in 10 years on Monday, May 13 when they placed third in the district held in Bertrand. The Vikings were led by Austin Murphy who placed third in the meet with a score of 86. Brandon Dodson placed 6th with a score of 93. Other team qualifiers include Wyatt Kaps, Nick Wood and Jackson Furlong.
The state meet will be held in North Platte at Lake Maloney Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21-22. Information for the meet can be found at NSSA Website.
Not even the cold, rainy weather could keep golfers from across the region from competing in the RPAC Golf Tournament hosted in Bertrand on April 27. Austin Murphy lead the Vikings in the meet shooting an 82 which placed him in fourth place, 2 strokes out of the championship.
For the first half of the season the Viking Golf team has competed very well. They have participated in four invites so far, and have had placers in almost every meet.
For the first meet of the season, the Vikings competed at the Amherst Invite. Tigh Renken individually placed 6th with a score of 90, and the team ended the invite with a score of 427 points. The second meet was the Elwood Invite where the team finished 9th with a final score of 417 points.
The next meet was the Arapahoe Invite, Jared Denny placed 14th, and helped bring the rest of his team to a 8th place finish. The top four Viking golfers for the Arapahoe Invite were Garrett Dodson, Jared Denny, Adyson Furlong, and Grant Dahlgren, who finished with a combine score of 384 points. The Vikings fourth golf meet was at Alma where they placed 9th as a team with a combine score of 402 points.
The next meet for the Viking golfers will be the RPAC meet, on Thursday April 28th in McCook.
