2019 Preseason Football

The 2019 Football Team is looking to have a very successful season. The Vikings only have six upperclassmen this year, so they are looking down to the younger members to pull their weight. During the off-season, the boys lifted weights and attended camps. They worked hard, looking to improve in any way possible.

Returning Coaches Steve Colfack, Mark Dethlefs, and Craig Newcomb have a lot more to watch this season after losing two coaches from last season. Although it’s going to be a big change for the team, Coach Colfack doesn’t think it will affect the boys performance for the season.

The boys have a lasting tradition of a strong brotherhood. Upperclassmen are good about including the younger teammates in and outside of practice. After losing 8 Seniors last year, the returning players are hoping to work hard and dominate this season. With 23 team members, this season is looking to be very promising for the Vikings.

Vikings Earn Playoff Bid

After sitting out of the playoff picture in 2017, the Viking football team is geared up for the 2018 playoff scene.  The Vikings completed the 2018 regular season with a 6-2 record; their only losses at the hands of Amherst and Overton.  This record gave Bertrand the 12th seed in the West, pairing them with Sandhills-Thedford who enters the playoffs with a 7-1 record.  The Knights earned the 5th seed with their only loss on the season at the hands of Mullen.

The Vikings will travel to Thedford on Thursday to take on the Knights at 6:00 CST.  If the Vikings prevail, they will most likely have a home game with either Giltner or Overton on Wednesday, October 31.

2018 Football Season Looks Bright For Vikings

The 2018 Viking Football Team looks to rally back for the upcoming season. After suffering a devastating 2017 season with a record of 1-7 the vikings return 7 of their 8 starters. The returning starters include: Miles Peterson ( 6-0, 195, Sr., TE/LB), Jordan Holen (5-9,195, Sr., RB/LB), Tyler Callahan (5-9, 170, Sr., QB/LB), Dylan Boggs (6-1, 230, Sr., L), Pepe Estrada (5-7, 185 Sr., L), Ignacio Estrada (5-8, 155, Sr., RB/LB) and Jose Murillo (5-10, 150, Jr., WR/DB).

In 2017 Holen earned All district LB honors, Peterson earned 2nd Team All District End honors,  and Callahan was named 1st Team All District Punter. The Vikings are hoping to compete in their district. Having seniors who have good experience will hopefully will lead to a successful season.

Together we will have a Brotherhood that will be aggressive, who will hold each other accountable with a strong attitude not only on defense but on offense and off the field. Individually we are weak, Together we are strong, we are a family.  -Tyler Callahan

In addition to Bertrand the D-2 7 district includes: Loomis, Anselmo Merna, Elwood, Overton, and Pleasanton.

Non district games on the Viking’s schedule includes: Alma, Amherst, and Franklin.
