Bertrand Boys Upend Blue Hill

In an exciting Tuesday night showdown, the Vikings fought back from an 11 point deficit in the second quarter to upend the Blue Hill Bobcats 61 to 52.  

Both teams came out strong in the first quarter, but during the second quarter the Bobcats began quickly distancing themselves going ahead by 11 points when Mcklayne Seeman sunk three 3 pointers from the corner at the start of the second quarter to go ahead of the Vikings 25-14. After a time out by Coach Newcomb, the Vikings were able to pick up their defense and slow down Blue Hill. Then late in the second quarter the Vikings were sparked by Jonah Nelson who scored 5 points and passed an assist to Ackerman for 2 more to pull the Vikings within six points. Right before half, Ackerman was able to  sink another three-pointer to put the Vikings within 5 at the half-time buzzer.

The Vikings came back in the second half, playing tough defense and chipping away at the Blue Hill lead.  Mid-way through the third quarter, Jarret Bieker was able to drain a three-pointer from the top of the key. He followed with a rebound and assist to Landon Andersen with an acrobatic move underneath.  After finishing the three-point play from the line, the Vikings led 43-39.

Shortly after, Jarret Bieker had to leave the game when he picked up back to back fouls. Younger brother Chonsey stepped in and held his own, dishing out an assist to Jonah Nelson followed by a rebound and steal to help keep the Bobcats from scoring.  At the end of the third quarter the Vikings were up 46-40.   

Mid-way through the fourth quarter, Blue Hill appeared to be making a comeback as they were able to get within 3 points.  Owen Kaps was able to convert on a drive off of a blocked shot by Jarret Bieker putting the Vikings up by 7; the Vikings never looked back, winning their third straight game with a score of 61-52. 

The young Viking team put together a complete game with a great team effort by all.  Jarret Bieker ended the game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 blocked shot.  Arik Ackerman led in scoring with 20 points and pulled in 6 rebounds. Chonsey Bieker led all rebounders with 7 and also contributed 2 assists, 3 blocked shots and 4 points.

The Vikings play Friday in Arapahoe beginning with the boys and girls JV games at 4:30 followed by the the girls varsity and boys varsity games at 6:00 and 7:30.  Both teams will play their final home games on Saturday when they take on Kenesaw. Game times are the same as Friday.
