After a great performance at the Hall of Fame Jamboree, the 2019 Viking Volleyball Team has their eyes on the prize with a season full of hopes and dreams right in front of them. The team is led by two seniors, Jennica Dannehl and Jada High, both experienced with great leadership skills. Coach Mason is in her 31st season of coaching for the Viking while co-head coach Kevin Lavene is in his 15th season. The team consists of 19 girls with 5 returning starters.
The coaches have complete confidence in this year’s team. They are returning arguably one of the top setters/players in the state with Erin Boggs. Along with Erin is Jada High, one of the states best liberos, and the viking’s starting libero over the past 3 seasons. Jennica Dannehl will be returning to her position as right side and is a three year starter.
In order to be successful, the Vikings will have to replace both outside hitting positions after losing both to graduation. Sophomore Jordan Hilmer, Junior Macie Steinbrink, and incoming freshman Sadie Maloley will be working hard to fill these positions. Aleya Hueftle, a junior and Johanna Ford, a sophomore should bring some experience to the middle position as they are both returning players from the 2018 season. Junior Anna Pelton will be stepping up to play both middle and right side positions, and Sophomore Jameson High will be adding depth to the setting and passing positions.
The Vikings open the 2019 season at home in a duel against Southwest on Thursday, August 29. The junior varsity game will begin at 5:30, and varsity will follow at 6:30.
