Be a part of Garrett’s herd

A benefit for Garrett Scholz has been scheduled for February 8, 2019 during the Bertrand vs Arapahoe basketball games. Shirts are being sold to support Garrett and may be worn the night of the games. Food will be served including a sandwich, chips and a cookie or bar for a free will donation. All concession proceeds will be donated to the family as well. In addition, a 50/50 pot drawing, and the sale of lighted angels made by the industrial technology classes will be part of the activities to raise money for the Scholz family. These funds will be used to help off-set the medical expenses associated with Garrett’s leukemia and bone marrow transplant.

Garrett, a sixth grade student at Bertrand Community School, has been in a battle with leukemia for the past four and a half years. After finishing his treatments for nearly a year, he and his family were told by his doctors at Children’s Hospital in Omaha that the cancer had returned.

In order to fight the disease, Garrett will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant. He will be admitted into the hospital on January 11, 2019. At this time he will receive chemo for two days followed by six rounds of total body irradiation over the next three days before the actual bone marrow transplant on January 17th.

Please become part of “Garrett’s Herd” by ordering a shirt and taking part in the benefit activities on February 8. If you would like to help with this benefit or make donations please contact Sheila Philips or Steph Edgren. If you have questions about shirt orders you may contact Lisa Mason or Jennifer Weber.

BCSVSO Food Drive starts now! Elementary students, bring your first 5 items and receive a mini candy cane! Junior and Senior High school students: ask your teacher how many items to donate to receive a free homework day, no quiz day or monkey bread!
Students: the BCSVSO Food Drive is going on. We want to Kick Kidder out of his office with as many donated items as we can! Each time you bring an item to his office let him know by saying Kick Kidder Out! P.s. You are required to say it nicely.

The food pantry is in immediate need of all items for this holiday season. Classroom teachers are asking that you not buy them a personal gift this year but instead put these funds towards the purchase of non-perishable food items, cleaning products, laundry detergent or personal care items for the food pantry.    Please bring these items to school anytime between Monday  December 3rd  and Friday, December 14th.

Ideas for donated items include:  Box mixes Laundry soap/dryer sheets Deodorant, Peanut butter,   Toilet paper Shampoo/Conditioner, Canned fruit and vegetables, Dish soap,   Toothpaste & Toothbrushes, Soups,   Cleaning products,  Body Soap, Cereal, & Paper towels.

In addition, there is also a community savings account which has readily available funds to be used to buy perishable food items from the “Countryside Market.”  Money is  accepted  year-round and deposits into this account can be used whenever there is a need. Thanks to your generous efforts, families in the Bertrand area will have one less concern over the holiday season.

The elementary teachers would like to humbly thank all of you, in advance, for respecting their wishes to help with this benevolent project.

All items will be added to help the BCSVSO food drive!!
