According to the 2019-20 school calendar, the end of the current school year is set for Wednesday, May 20th. After looking at the Nebraska Department of Education requirements for minimum hours, the Bertrand Community School will have met that requirement on Friday, May 8th. The Board of Education and the Administrative team at Bertrand Community School have determined that all 7th-12th grade students that have completed all assignments and are passing all classes by May 8th will have completed all requirements for the 2019-20 school year effectively ending their school year. Those 7th-12th grade students that have not completed all assigned course work and/or are not passing their classes will be given until Wednesday, May 20th to meet these requirements. The students not meeting the above criteria will be notified by their teacher on May 8th when they can discuss an individual student plan for the remainder of the school year. All junior and senior high teachers will be available to assist students as needed between May 8th and 20th.
Our K-6 teachers will be using the time May 8th-20th time to work with struggling students in areas of greatest need and/or whole group activities to reinforce specific state standards and positive academic growth. Our goal over these eight days is to provide ample opportunity for struggling students to end the school year on a positive note.
