By Jade Gonzalez

Conference, this word brings to mind down to the wire volleyball games and stress filled track meets, but Conference Speech is no different. RPAC speech was on February 17th at Southwest High School. Bertrand finished in a very respectable 5th place with only one point behind Dundy County-Stratton who finished 4th and only two points behind 3rd place Maxwell.

Overall the team performed very well with nine different events medaling and two superior awards. Adyson Furlong received 1st place in Extemporaneous, Sarah Pelton got runner-up in Entertainment, Sam Leibhart received 3rd in Serious Prose, Kara Philips got 3rd in Informative, Ai-Peri Dzhumashalieva got 5th in Informative, Jade Gonzalez 5th in Extemporaneous, and Jade Gonzalez 8th in Poetry.

There was also two group events that medaled the first being an OID (Oral interpretation of Drama) that placed 4th and consisted of Mollie Kaps, Wyatt Kaps, Halle Dahlgren, Adyson Furlong, and Kaylee Andersen. The other group event was a Duet Acting group consisting of Tigh Renken and Jared Denny and placed 4th.

“RPAC competition is good because you get to compete against a lot of people you see through out the season.” Said Junior Adyson Furlong “This is good because it lets you prepare for what districts will be like.

The days are passing by quickly as districts is just around the corner. These individuals still have a lot of work to do if they want to earn their places at the state competition in late March.  So while they continue to work hard and be successful, there’s a lot on their plates as they work hard and try their best to enjoy every moment.
