Vikings Go To State One-Act

The Bertrand One Act Cast and Crew traveled to Norfolk on Thursday December 10th to compete at the state meet, where they earned 6th place honors. Three cast members, Katlyn Einspahr, Isaiah Flint, and Tigh Renken, earned Outstanding Actor/Actress Awards.

The Vikings competed against Harvard, Lourdes Central Catholic, North Platte St. Pat’s, Loup City, and Hartington- Newcastle. The production that won was “I’m Not Ebenezer Scrooge”, produced by Hartington- Newcastle. Bertrand definitely stood out because it was the only play in Class C-2 that did not have a Christmas theme.

One-Act Play Advances to State

Even though they didn’t know what the outcome would be, the Viking One-Act Play Cast and Crew celebrated after their C-2 district performance on Tuesday at the Tassel Performance Center in Holdrege.  It was only the second public performance and the first time the group was able to compete this season. Earlier, the RPAC

conference competition was cancelled because of bad weather,  and conference officials were unable to find a day to reschedule.  “We felt like the kids performed very well,” said Play Director Jennifer Kaps.  “Going in was a little nerve-racking because we were unable to be critiqued by  judges prior to districts.  It was like the whole season was wrapped up into one district performance. The details like setting up and tearing down within time limits are difficult to One Act 2015 161practice when you are not in an actual competition setting.” The judges agreed that the Vikings performance was outstanding as they unanimously gave the cast and crew first place finishes.

Six Vikings were recognized for outstanding acting performances.  Katlyn Einspahr, Mariah Davis, Mollie Kaps, Isaiah Flint, Tigh Renken, and Alexa Berry all received this award.

The Vikings will perform at the state competition held in Norfolk on Thursday, December 10 at 3:00.
